ABOUT US
Team History
The Surrey Rebels Junior B Lacrosse team is entering
into its third season in 2008. Our first season in
2006 saw us with only a handful of players that
played an outstanding season but because of our low
numbers we finished in the lower end of the stats.
Last year, 2007, was our second season. We acquired
a full roster and despite injury challenges thru out
the season, we had a very successful season and
finished in the middle of the pack. For the
upcoming 2008 season we are working closely with
Semiahmoo Minor to give their graduating
Intermediate players and returning Junior age
players the opportunity to continue playing
Lacrosse. With this partnership, we look forward to
a very successful season. Our goal is to finish in
the top ranks this season.
Team Administration
We are registered with BCLA, along with the
Intermediate B Rebels, as part of the Senior
Division of the Surrey Lacrosse Association or
SLA (formerly Surrey Minor Lacrosse Association,
SMLA). However we are a completely separate entity
and work as an independent unit. We are not
financially subsidized in any way by the Surrey
Lacrosse Association. We do have a working
relationship with the Surrey Intermediate B and
Midget teams with regard to players available for
game call-ups.
We are in no way, affiliated with the South Fraser
Stickmen Junior A or Intermediate A franchises.
Our team is governed by Dan Ovenden and managed by
Sharon Thomsen.
League Affiliation
We are members of the West Coast Junior Lacrosse
League (WCJLL). The WCJLL is made up of teams
from Maple Ridge, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, New
West, Delta, Langley, North Vancouver and possibly
the addition of a Richmond/Vancouver team this
season.
Playing Season
Our season begins in April and runs into mid July
with the top 4 or 6 teams advancing to the single
series knock out playoff rounds and then Provincials
in August. The regular season will consist of 16 –
18 games over a 12 – 14 week schedule with playoffs
after that. During the regular season we will
normally have 2 sessions per week – either one HOME
game and one practice or one HOME game and one AWAY
game.
Our HOME games will be Monday nights with an 8 pm
start at the Cloverdale Arena. AWAY games will be
on a variety of nights with most games starting at
8pm.
Team Selection
WCJLL
mandates Junior teams are allowed to carry 24
players on their roster. Team membership is not
automatic and interested players must attend
pre-season training sessions. Team selection
process starts Feb 8th and continues
until the beginning of the season and is open to all
residents of Surrey. See above for details on the
current camp. Every participating player will be
evaluated on their performance during the pre
season. We will have a selection panel to observe
and evaluate the player’s performance over the
duration of the preseason with final team selections
being made at the beginning of the season. Once a
player is selected to the team if he is 19 years of
age or older, he will then sign the BCLA player
registration card and become a registered player
with the Surrey Rebels Jr. B team at which time the
player will be expected to pay a registration fee.
If the player is under the age of 19 years, a parent
or Guardian must complete the form and again payment
of the full registration fee must be submitted at
that time.
Player Registration
Once a player is signed to the Surrey Rebels Jr. B
team, he is expected to pay the registration fee in
full and becomes the property of the Surrey Rebels
organization and is no longer eligible to play for
any other team unless he is formal released by the
team management.
Registration fee for the 2008 season is expected to
be $250-$300 and is due and payable in full before
the signed player will be permitted to play in any
league games. Included in the registration fee is
practice attire to for the player keep, maintain and
wear to all practices and games. If a signed player
has financial concerns regarding the registration
fee, please contact manager to discuss the situation
is strictest confidence. We do not want financial
issues to deter a player from playing.
