The Surrey Rebels
would like to again thank all of its volunteers,
sponsors and supporters for making its second season in
British Columbia Intermediate
Lacrosse League "B"
Division play another great success. After an
inaugural season that saw the team finish 11-12-1, tied
for 6th in a 12 team league, the
2008 edition improved
to 16-8, good for 4th place in an expanded 13 team
league. Unfortunately, our regular season success
did not carry through to the
post season, which saw a
Ridge Meadows club fortified with late season additions
sweep the best-of-3 playoff series and advance to the
Provincial
Championships.
Individual highlights
included Scott O'Coin leading the team in assists (31 -
9th in the league) and points (55 - 19th in the league),
Mike Kennedy leading
the team in goals (30 - 16th in the
league) and Jeff Geyer finishing 3rd in overall league
goaltending (85.4% save percentage, 6.79 goals against
average
in 1,254 minutes played). In addition,
Jeff was named to the 2008 BCILL "B" All-Star Team - the
only player from a non-Provincials team to achieve such
an
honour.
Special thanks once
again go out to Tim Fielding and Vaughn Easey for their
time and dedication as assistant coach and trainer,
respectively, Joe and
Michelle Toneff for running an
extremely successful pub night and continuing to bring
in major sponsorship dollars, and Christine Geyer for
keeping both the
banking and the head coach/governor in
line during the hectic season. We would also like to
thank the Surrey Lacrosse Association and its 2008
President, Beth McLucas, for their continuing support of
the senior program in Surrey.
And of course we
cannot forget our general manager, Sandra Prance.
Sandra had another outstanding season helping with the
recruitment of players and
volunteers, ensuring we had
clean uniforms for every game, making sure we had
off-floor officials for all home games, processing and
sending in all player
registrations and winning game
sheets, and again keeping the league commissioner on her
toes! For this, Sandra was awarded the
Commissioner's
Award as top Team Manager.
It has been a sincere
pleasure to operate the 2007 and 2008 Surrey
Intermediate Rebels, but it is time for me to move up to
join the Junior Program.
Sandra and I will ensure
that the new team management is in place for the 2009
season and well trained to continue the growth of the
Intermediate
Program in Surrey.

For the first time in the history of Surrey Lacrosse,
its Intermediate Team made it to the post season!
We finished the season at 16-8, good for 4th place
in
the 13 team league. While we could not overcome
the tough 3rd

Provincial
Championships in New Westminster. we have a lot to be proud of!
Also for the first time in club history, two Surrey
Rebels were honoured at the
BC Intermediate Lacrosse League 2008 Awards Ceremony
which took place
during the Provincial
Championships.
Jeff Geyer was named to the All-Star Team as best
goaltender, and our MVP, Sandra Prance took home the
