The Surrey Rebels would like to again thank
all of its volunteers, sponsors, supporters
and the Surrey Lacrosse Association for
making its fourth season in West Coast
Junior Lacrosse League a great success.
After a less then stellar 2008 campaign, the
team got off to a 6-0 start, were 9-1-1 at
one point and ended up finishing 4th in
league standings with a 14-5-1 record – best
in team history. Unfortunately, we
were knocked out in the first round of the
playoffs.
Individual highlights included Curt Callard
winning the league scoring title (60 goals,
40 assists, 100 points) and Jeff Geyer
winning the league goaltending title (89%
save percentage, 5.46 goals against average
in 736 minutes played). Two other
Rebels finished in the top five scoring
(Chris Martin with 76 points and Tommy Tran
with 63 points), and three players were
named to the WCJLL All-Star Team (Callard,
Martin, Geyer). To cap off a great
season, three members of the 2009 Surrey
Rebels received awards from Commissioner
Frazer MacDonald of the West Coast Junior
Lacrosse League:
Curt Callard - Top Scorer
Tommy Tran - Unsung Hero
Jeff Geyer - Top Goaltender
(shared with S. Wallace, Port Moody)

Special thanks go out to our head coach, Ed
Collins, who dealt with many medical issues
during the season but kept fighting back,
his assistant coach Jesse McAdam and Dennis
Ewen, who took over the bench when Ed was
unavailable. Thanks also go out to
Brittany Williams and Vaughn Easey for
keeping the guys in good repair, Tim
Fielding and Mike Martin for making sure the
guys made it on and off the floor without
impediment, and Dan Ovenden for keeping the
league in line and doing the timekeeping at
home games. Dan has stepped down as
Governor after three seasons, and deserves
much credit for keeping the team going
during the tough times.
I would like to also acknowledge the work of
Joe and Michelle Toneff for once again
running an extremely successful pub night
which netted over $2,000 for the
Intermediate and Junior programs, and to
Christine Geyer for running the admissions
table and 50/50 at home games, and keeping a
tight rein on team finances and its GM.
We have 10 players graduating to Senior for
next season (Callard, Martin, Tran, Cory
Southcott, Richard Thomsen, Travis Mundy,
Alex Kos, Marko Konjevic, Marinko Kos and
Casey Henry), and we wish them the best in
their lacrosse careers. We expect all
15 remaining players to return for the 2010
season, fully expect the majority of
Intermediate Rebels graduates to be out at
training camp, and will be recruiting hard
in the off-season to bring in free agents as
well as Surrey players who took 2009 off.
We expect our head coach to be back for
2010, but will likely have to recruit
additional coaching staff and a full-time
trainer during the off-season.
It is my intention, as Governor and General
Manager for both teams, to maintain a
combined operation of the Junior and
Intermediate and Junior Rebels programs in
2010. It will indeed be a challenge
financially to operate the teams, as we
expect to lose over $8,300 in direct access
gaming funding, or 1/3 of team revenue, in
2010 as a result of recent provincial budget
decisions. The 2009 Financial
Statement is attached, which shows an
approx. $2,400 profit and cash balance of
just over $6,000.

 WCJLL
Knocks Off BC in Junior B
All-Star Classic
The three players representing the Surrey
Rebels on the West Coast Junior Lacrosse League
All-Star Team were instrumental in the 15-10
victory over the BC All-Stars Canada Day in Chilliwack.
Curt Callard (5 goals, 1 assist), Chris
Martin (3 goals) and Jeff Geyer (33 saves on 39 shots in 31
minutes played) led the way for the Mainland
squad, who avenged an 11-9 loss in 2008 to
the BC team made up of players from the
Pacific Northwest (Vancouver Island),
Thompson-Okanagan and Great White North
Junior Leagues.
Callard was also named WCJLL Player of the
Game.
