Callard nets six

With league scoring leader Curtis Callard collecting another nine points, the Surrey Rebels hammered the Ridge Meadows Burrards 15-4 Monday night in the Cloverdale Arena.

Callard tallied six times, bringing his league-leading total to 35, 14 goals more than his nearest rival. Callard also leads the West Coast Junior Lacrosse League with 21 assists and 56 points in 11 games played.

The win kept the Rebels atop the Junior B league with a 9-1-1 (won-lost-tied) record.

Surrey got off to a slow start against the Burrards, despite taking an early 2-0 lead. They led just 3-2 after 20 minutes against an opponent which has won just twice this season.

After getting outshot 14-13 in the first period, the Rebels dominated the second, firing 21 shots at the Ridge Meadows goal, and scoring five times. The home team continued the barrage in the final frame, adding another seven tallies while enjoying an 18-6 shots on goal advantage.

Tommy Tran finished the night with eight points, scoring three times, while Chris Martin added seven points on three goals and four assists. Tyler Voisey with two goals and four assists, Matt Clarke with a goal and two helpers, and netminder Jeff Geyer with three assists also contributed offensively.

The Rebels were a perfect eight-for-eight on the powerplay, and killed off all five shorthanded situations.

- The Rebels Intermediate B team took over sole possession of first place in the South Conference of the B.C. Intermediate B League Tuesday night with a 14-5 win over the Burnaby Lakers.

With the win, the Rebels improve to 7-4 (won-lost). Brad Olson led the way with two goals and four assists, while Max Richards netted three goals and and Ryan Sepka notched a pair.

Other goal scorers were Thomas Henry, Alex Lamb, Andre Culjac, David Goodwin, Michael Bosch, Conor Campbell and Travis Schmidt. Clayton Finley went the distance in goal, stopping 37 of 42 shots he faced, while Surrey peppered the Burnaby net with 64 shots on the night.
