Fast start key to Rebels win

The Surrey Rebels scored three times in the first two minutes of play and cruised to a 14-6 victory over the Burnaby Lakers in a West Coast Junior Lacrosse League game Monday night at the Cloverdale Arena.
Curt Callard padded his lead atop the Junior B league’s scoring race, netting four goals and assisting on three others. Tommy Tran and Chris Martin each added a pair of goals and two assists.
Also scoring for the home team were Braden Wilkins, Trent Wittal, Travis Voisey, Sean O’Beirn and Cory Cutler.
Surrey dominated play throughout the contest, leading 5-1 and 9-3 at the period breaks, outshooting the visitors 64-39. Jarence Purvis got the start in the Rebels goal, making 33 saves.
The Rebels were near-perfect on the penalty kill, allowing one goal on five shorthanded situations. They also scored one goal on 11 powerplay opportunities.
