Rebels offence overwhelms North Shore
Scoring nine times in the opening period, the Surrey Rebels crushed the North Shore Indians 16-6 Thursday night in a West Coast Junior Lacrosse League game Thursday night in North Vancouver.
Surrey surrendered the first goal of the game, but led 6-0 four minutes later. Chris Martin scored three times, with Tommy Tran, Jeff Callard and Spencer Ovenden netting one each. Ovenden with his second of the game, Tracis Mundy and Trent Wittal also scored before the first period was over, giving Surrey a 9-2 lead after 20 minutes.
Callard tallied four more goals over the final two periods, and finished the night with five goals and five assists. Martin added one more tally, and also was credited with four assists for an eight-point game. Tran also collected eight point, scoring twice. Cam Fielding also scored, netting a powerplay goal in the second period.
Surrey enjoyed a huge 44-24 shots on goal advantage, with Jarence Purvis making 18 saves in the Surrey goal.
The Rebels, now 2-0 (won-lost) on the season, will host Port Moody next Monday night at 8 p.m. in the Cloverdale Arena.
