Rebels still unbeaten

The Surrey Rebels completed a sweep of the North Shore Indians Monday night, defeating their West Coast Junior Lacrosse League rivals 11-3 at the Cloverdale Arena.
After pounding the Indians 15-6 four days earlier in North Vancouver, the Rebels surprisingly fell behind 2-1 Monday after 20 minutes of play, with only Curt Callard managing to score for the home team.
Surrey regained the lead in the second period, as Tommy Tran netted a pair of goals, and Callard and Sean O'Beirn each scored once for a 5-2 lead.
Callard netted two more in the third period, finishing the game with four goals and five assists, bringing his season's total to 14 in three games. Tran completed his hat trick with one goal, Stu Redmond tallied twice and Derek Kolins added a single to complete the scoring.
Surrey outshot the Indians 60-43, with Jeff Geyer making 40 saves in the Rebels goal.
The Rebels, now at 3-0 (won-lost) on the season, will host the expansion Port Moody Thunder Monday night at 8 p.m. in the Cloverdale Arena.
• The Rebels Intermediate B team ran their record to 3-1 Sunday night with a 10-9 victory over the Delta Islanders in Ladner.
Surrey built up an 7-4 lead before a five-goal run by by the Islanders put the Rebels down 9-7 four minutes into the third period. The visitors recovered, and tied the game when Brad Olson set up Thomas Henry, then scored himself four minutes later. Riley Brady-Springer netted the winner with 3:11 left to play.
Olson finished the game with a pair of goals and three assists for a five-point game, while Derek Kolins also notched a pair. Max richards, Corey Baldwin and Brandon Baldo scored once each.
The Islanders had a 45-35 edge in shots on goal, by Allan McLucas made 36 saves in the Surrey goal to get the win. The Rebels were one-for-five on the powerplay, and killed off five of seven shorthanded situations.
Surrey will host the Langley Warriors Friday at 8 p.m. in the Cloverdale Arena.
