Rebels offence tops Indians

A second one-sided victory in as many games has the Surrey Rebels atop the standings early in the West Coast Junior Lacrosse League season.

The Rebels exploded for six first period goals then added seven more in the second on their way to a 14-3 victory over the North Shore Indians Monday night at the Cloverdale Arena.

A week earlier, Surrey stopped the Langley Warriors 15-2 in their season-opener.

North Shore opened the scoring, and their second goal cut a Surrey lead to 3-2 12 minutes into the game. But they trailed 6-2 and 13-2 at the period breaks and lost for the third time in as many games.

Tyler Voisy was in on eight Rebels goals, scoring four times and assisting on four others. Mike Kennedy had seven point son a pair of goals and five helpers, with Brad Olson contributing with three goals and three assists.

Cody Hydes, Mark Leroux, Zach Morin, Sean O’Beirn and Scott O’Coin netted a goal each, with O’Beirn assisting on three Surrey tallies.

The Rebels outshot North Shore 47-21 over the first 40 minutes of play, before letting up in the final frame when the Indians had a 13-8 edge.

The Rebels are at home again next Monday, when the Ridge Meadows Burrards are the visitors. Face off is at 8 p.m. at the Cloverdale Arena.

- The North Delta Hawks continue to lead the South Conference of the B.C. Intermediate Lacrosse League standings following a 4-2 decision over the New Westminster Salmonbellies Saturday night in New Westminster.

The Hawks are 3-0 (won-lost), tied for first place with the 3-2 Richmond Roadrunners. North Delta was at home last night (Thursday) to the 2-1 Delta Islanders, and will host the 1-0 Burnaby Lakers next Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Sungod Arena.

The Surrey Rebels are fifth in the South Conference with a 1-2 record. Their next game is tonight (Friday) at 8 p.m. against the 2-1 Ridge Meadows Burrards.
